The English word "novel" comes from the Italian "novella", which has a new meaning and is the name of the prose. This type of story was very popular in the 14th century. Today the word "novel" is    used to describe a kind of fictional text. Its identity has changed and is    now considered a work of fiction with more than 50,000 words. The British were born in the 16th and 17th centuries and reached great heights during the era of the Pope and Dr. Johnson. The novels focus more on character development than plot. கற்றலுக்கு உரித்தானவற்றுக்கான ஒரு திட்டமே கலைத்திட்டமாகும். பாலர் பாடசாலை முதல் பல்கலைக்கழகம் வரை அதாவது முறைசார்ந்த கல்வியிலும் முறைசாராத கல்வியிலும் உள்ள கற்றல் கற்பித்தல் செயன்முறை தொடர்பாக காணப்படும் முறையான திட்டமே கலைத்திட்டம் எனலாம். இது ஒழுங்கமைந்த கல்வி தொடங்கிய காலத்திலிருந்தே மனிதனுடன் இணைந்தவாறு தோற்றம் பெற்று விட்டது. பாடசாலையின் வடிவங்கள் ஆரம்ப காலத்திலிருந்து மாற்றமடைந்து வருகிறது. அதற்கு ஏற்ற வகையில் கலைத்திட்டமும் மாற்றமடைகிறது.  கலைத்திட்டத்துக்கு ஆங்கிலத்தில் Curriculum எனப்படுகிறது. Curriculum என்ற ஆங்கிலப் பதத்துக்கு ஈடாக பல தமிழ் பதங்கள் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன. அவற்றில், “ கல்வித்திட்டம், கல்வி ஏற்பாடு, பாடஏற்பாடு, பாடவிதானம், கலைத்திட்டம்” போன்றவை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கதாகும். எமது நாட்டில் கலைத்திட்டம், பாடவிதானம் எனும் சொற்களே பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன.
