Advantages and Disadvantages of online education

Education is a very important part of our life. Education can also concoct our future and if it is not taken we have many issues  in the future. Some years ago traditional education was highly available. but due to covid-19 all schools are closed from 2019. The universities and educational  institutions were also closed during the lockdown period and traditional classroom teaching switched to online teaching in many countries to compensate for the educational losses.

Online education is the form of education that takes place over the internet. It is also indicated  e learning or  online learning. Students attend online with the help of computers or smart phones. The system of learning  in online education takes place through the electronic medium. That is done through digital platforms. Online education includes an electronic way of learning and teaching. In online education we can take education at home.  In Online education students access online study materials, join virtual lectures, post questions to teachers, chat with fellow students, give virtual exams and do many more things.  Although  nowadays  online education has both advantages and disadvantages. 

Advantages

  •  flexibility - Learners can study the online courses material during their own time

  •  Comfort -  online lectures can be attended from the comfort of your home 

  • Reduced costs - online education can cost less as there is no cost for computing

  •  Save time - it helps to save time as students don't have to travel for online learning 

  • No age barrier -  online classes are effective for all age groups. People can finish their studies via online obtainable courses and school students can find their  notes in the online application 

  • Online education is not expensive

  • Online learning has no geographical barrier.

  • Students can take aid and use resources anytime.

  • Online learning is free from boring lecture methods, it includes other methods like demonstration, project methods and so on.

  • Online education can be delivered in form of lesson animation videos and images 

  • Variety of programs and courses-  students have a lot of options to select an online educational program. They can select subjects and topics of their interests very easily 

  • Improve retention quality -  online learning enhances  retention power among students. It describes concepts and theories in the form of videos, images, descriptions, documentaries, charts etc. so that they can be remembered easily. It makes it easier for students with respect to equation problems - solving etc.


Disadvantages

  •  lakes social interaction-  It is difficult to have group discussion in online education student teacher interaction is also Limited 

  • Technology issues -  many students face technical issues like slow internet speed or inconsistent internet comparability. This obstructs  the learning experience.

  • Cheating  - students can cheat easily if exams are conducted online. They  copy the answers from their books and websites when giving the exams.

  •  Inability to focus - many students find it difficult to focus on screen for a long period of time. students get distracted quickly  towards social media or other websites too.

  • Internet packages are more height priced

  • Student’s Classroom interaction is missing 

  • Poor students and some other students can not get internet packages and their parents do not know computer knowledge 

  • Not appropriate for all  - It is  a  well known fact that students have a dominant  learning style. Few visual, few auditory etc. online learning which requires a child to sit in front of a device and understand the lesson, may not be suited to all learning styles.

  • Health problems  -  Attending classes online requires sitting in front of a laptop or mobile for longer hours can give few health issues like headaches, eye strain, ear problems, bad posture, and other physical issues.  

  • Distraction - Online learning also creates a lot of destruction. Most students open the mobile to learn something and end up using social media websites, chatting,  sharing photos or playing video games. These types of destruction waste one’s  time,  which could have been used to perform a meaningful task.

Online education has proved to be a boon during the lockdown phase  but it has some limitations. it should not replace the traditional way of education as it cannot fully replace the human relationships that developed in a group.
